Department:
To manage and supervise a team of Lead Engineers, Licensed Aircraft Engineers, Technicians, Mechanics and Cleaners to ensure that all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on all Qatar Executive and third party Client aircraft are performed as effectively as possible and to the highest standards of workmanship and airworthiness. Responsible for the effective use of personnel, procedures, tooling and materials to achieve the highest practical levels of aircraft availability and reliability.

Strategy Formulation:
- To create a highly productive maintenance team to perform all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance
- activities to support the operation of QE, managed and third party aircraft efficiently and safely.
Management
- Optimize the QE Maintenance Department to become more effective and efficient by communicating expectations, developing tailored procedures, encouraging greater team work,
- The recruitment and selection of qualified staff for the Maintenance Department in conjunction with the VP Tech Ops.
- Development of the Maintenance Department training policy and creating tailored career paths for each team member to achieve the most capable and flexible team practical
- Using all available resources at his disposal development a highly capable Maintenance Department
- Develop processes to facilitate the increasing number of maintenance events for QE aircraft, as well as the ongoing addition of managed aircraft and third party maintenance clients.
Leadership
- Through active involvement in day-to-day activities demonstrate integrity, professionalism, respect and
- the desire to continually improve to all QE Technical Operations staff
- A clear understanding of operational excellence, quality, health and safety and technical issues, and to
- influence this through the development of a competent and highly motivated team of professionals
- Periodically meet with each member of his assigned team to understand their strengths and weaknesses,
- with the goal of tailoring formal and informal training to ensure that each member of the team can develop professionally to the best of their ability
- Define the career paths of all members of the assigned team, develop the processes and milestones to
- achieve these goals and, together with the individual, track the progress made and motivate success
- Through encouragement, constructive criticism and continual feedback create an environment of
- continuous improvement and pride of workmanship for each member of the team.
Purchasing
- Jointly with QE Engineering & Scheduling, determine the tooling, ground support equipment and materials
- that are required to ensure that all QE operated aircraft types can be efficiently and safely maintained.
- Define material requirements for the safe and efficient operation of the QE Hangar facility and ensure that
- these items are acquired in a timely manner
- Together with the VP Technical Operations, develop the annual aircraft maintenance, hangar operations,
- personnel and ancillary budgets
Management & Leadership
- Establish the department or teams objectives and priorities to align with and support business objectives.
- Regularly evaluate the department or teams objectives, plans, procedures and practices, and makes
- appropriate changes if needed.
- Oversee and supervise employees. Direct daily activities, recruit, train, develop and discipline to ensure a
- high standard of service delivery.
Development
- Take responsibility for own ongoing personal development and growth of expertise.
- Train and develop other employees, for proper succession planning and risk management.
- Assist in the response to any emergency or a major operational disruption affecting Qatar Airways
- or its subsidiaries, including support of the Qatar Airways Special Assistance Program.
- Train Qatari staff in the duties above.
- Perform other department duties related to his/her position as directed by the Head of the Department.
Experience:
Qualifications:
Essential
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Engineering
Or
- Technical College / Diploma
- Holder of ICAO aircraft maintenance engineer license, ideally EASA License.
- Licensed engineer capable of holding a minimum of two aircraft type operated by QE, ideally experienced.
Previous Experience:
- 10 years aircraft maintenance experience with a minimum of 7 years as a licensed engineer on type.
- Executive Management - minimum 10 years of job-related experience required
- Previous experience in a supervisory role performing line and base maintenance activities on corporate
- aircraft in a hangar environment
- Significant experience in performing aircraft repairs off-site in various locations worldwide
- In depth knowledge of aircraft maintenance fundamentals appropriate to his area of employment
- Sound knowledge of EASA and QCAA air legislation
- Base and Line maintenance experience, AOG response experience
- Hangar maintenance management experience / team leadership
- Maintenance Manager, Base Maintenance Manager, Planning Manager or similar
Job Specific Skills:
- Ability to make clear, rational decisions under pressure
- Ability to motivate, encourage and lead a team of licensed engineers, technicians, mechanics and skilled
- trades
- Strong organisational skills
- Sound knowledge of aircraft defects with strong troubleshooting skills
